Summary

"Once there was a tree。。。and she loved a little boy。"

So begins a story of unforgettable perception, beautifully written and illustrated by the gifted and versatile Shel Silverstein。

Every day the boy would come to the tree to eat her apples, swing from her branches, or slide down her trunk。。。and the tree was happy。 But as the boy grew older he began to want more from the tree, and the tree gave and gave and gave。

This is a tender story, touched with sadness, aglow with consolation。 Shel Silverstein has created a moving parable for readers of all ages that offers an affecting interpretation of the gift of giving and a serene acceptance of another's capacity to love in return。

Okay wow。。 I started reading this 5mins ago and finished it right now and OH MY GOD it's super cute and kind but upsetting at the same time, it has such great meanings。。 Now I started realizing that kids stories have much more power than I used to think when I was a kid (tho i'm 16, STILL a kid, yeah i know lol)。。 Now I actually wish I could go back to my early childhood and read children's books as passionately as I do now。 Okay wow。。 I started reading this 5mins ago and finished it right now and OH MY GOD it's super cute and kind but upsetting at the same time, it has such great meanings。。 Now I started realizing that kids stories have much more power than I used to think when I was a kid (tho i'm 16, STILL a kid, yeah i know lol)。。 Now I actually wish I could go back to my early childhood and read children's books as passionately as I do now。 。。。more

Cute story I didn’t expect this to be such a quick read。 Like in one sitting。 A short one at that。 It was a sweet story。

This book always moves me without knowing why。 It’s a piece of art that stirs emotions deep in your soul like every masterpiece。 It’s sweet, sad and beautiful but like every other artistic creations it depends what rocks your boat。

Forgot to rate this a few months ago。 It's a kids book and takes less than 5 minutes to read, but it's a very special story。 One that teaches empathy, gratitude, exploitation of our resources and one-sided relationships。 I think about, and talk about this story a lot。 Forgot to rate this a few months ago。 It's a kids book and takes less than 5 minutes to read, but it's a very special story。 One that teaches empathy, gratitude, exploitation of our resources and one-sided relationships。 I think about, and talk about this story a lot。 。。。more

This story is very similar to the stories that my mom told me when I was a young boy。。。This story will tell you about how a tree devoted his life helping the boy

As a parent, (mother) this book speaks volumes to me, as giving is what a parent does。 I think this message of appreciating what your mom (or dad) has done, is received, on some level, by my children。 A great lesson。

Definitely my kids' favorite book that I read several times a week。 A great book on learning to be giving but also appreciating what you have before it is gone。 Definitely my kids' favorite book that I read several times a week。 A great book on learning to be giving but also appreciating what you have before it is gone。 。。。more

Loved it as a child, dislike it as a woman and a mother。

Human greed and giving nature of tree explained nicely。

I'm not sure why this book rubbed me the wrong way。 I agree with another comment I just saw。 The tree 'selfless love' is more like an invitation to be taken advantage of。 Maybe I just didn't get it but that's just my opinion。 I'm not sure why this book rubbed me the wrong way。 I agree with another comment I just saw。 The tree 'selfless love' is more like an invitation to be taken advantage of。 Maybe I just didn't get it but that's just my opinion。 。。。more

This sad yet life changing book is something you HAVE to read。 Although it's short and simple, it gives a clear message about friendships and that some people will stick with you no matter what。 This sad yet life changing book is something you HAVE to read。 Although it's short and simple, it gives a clear message about friendships and that some people will stick with you no matter what。 。。。more

This short story is extremely sweet。 I would recommend toward younger audiences but adults could also enjoy it。
